DMT

From The Maze Where Realities Converge

DMT, or dimethyltryptamine, is a psychedelic chemical found in small quatities in most plants, in the brains of most animals, and in appreciable quatities in several psychedelic plants, including phalaris brachystachys and mimosa hostilis.

It is inactive orally, unless taken with a monoamine oxidase inhibitor. This oral admixture is known as ayahuasca. When smoked or injected, it produces a very intense, very revelatory, very interesting psychedelic trip lasting only about 15 minutes.

DMT is produced in the human pineal gland, which Rene Descartes believed to be a sort of antenna connecting matter with consciousness. It is apprently released in large quantities during human birth and death, and this has led to speculation that it has something to do with the connexion between the body and soul. The pineal gland is located where the Hindus believe the ajna chakra, or 'Third Eye' - man's connexion with higher realms, is found. Could this be an indication that DMT is our link to visions of higher planes?
