From The Maze Where Realities Converge
Ayahuasca is a psychedelic drink made from boiling a DMT-containing plant such as mimosa hostilis with a monoamine oxidase inhibitor
During the psychedelic revolution of the 1960s, while LSD, morning glory seeds and magic mushrooms were familiar, ayahuasca was a semi-mythical, rumoured superdrug lurking in the dark Amazon. William Burroughs went a-questing into the jungle in search of the magic potion; his experience is chronicled in The Yage Letters, a book of his correspondence with Allen Ginsberg.
Recently, the Santo Daime movement has brought ayahuasca to a wider audience. They are a lovely bunch of folk who conduct ayahuasca ceremonies worldwide, and invite all comers. They have recently won court cases in Holland and Ireland supporting their civil liberty to take ayahuasca.
