Many large stretches of road dealt with by the Bus That Went to Infinity can be grouped under “N11” in their route status, such as Leeson Street and the Stillorgan Dual Carriageway. It is the southern mirror of the N1, running from O’Connell Street to Lisburn, Country Antrim. It passes by countless areas relevant to the Ultimate Comment, such as U.C.D. and Whites Cross, as well as linking Dublin with Bray, Kilmacanogue, Ashford, Wicklow, Arklow, Gorey, Enniscorthy (where it intersects the N79 to Waterford) and Wexford (where it intersects the N25 between Waterford and Rosslare Harbour (and thus the rest of the world).

It is thus one of the main vessels for human commerce and has resulted in linear development of commerce in satellite towns as well as extensive infrastructure in the form of lighting and bridges. It was also the site of an early Irish motorway development in the M11, and its expansion to accommodate heavy use has generated much controversy. Its relevance to the Ultimate Comment is generated by its importance in the interconnection of all people, and in particular the large expanses of road as they relate to experience of the person who is travelling inside the arteries of the city and the nation. The character of experience on the N11 at night for a cyclist, pedestrian, driver or bus-rider is largely determined by the intersecting beams of sodium lamps from the geometrical extremes of the N11 which produce a flickering hologram of artificial orange day when the sunlight is absent.

Parts of this environment are being gradually digitised, and the N11 will eventually be interiorised by computers. It is likely in the interests of convenience that all of the N11’s traffic lights (at least in that part of it serving Dublin) will be controlled from a central computer system in the near future, and in areas extending from town outwards now to the suburbs, traffic cameras scan and reconstruct the N11 from atop large metal poles such as the Crossroads Transfunctioner.
