FAQ
From The Maze Where Realities Converge - the psychedelic encyclopedia of reality from The Ultimate Comment
What do you believe in? We believe in eight gods, each of which has a secret. By discovering the eight secrets, we hope to gain knowledge of the secret of the universe, which we call The Ultimate Comment. On the other hand, things like a giant red triangle flying over the Wicklow hills obviously don't exist (that would be silly), so we believe in nothing.
Is The Ultimate Comment a cult? We call ourselves a cult, so don't worry, the cults your mother warned you about are the ones that don't admit they're cults. Unlike, say, Scientology or Buddhism, we don't claim to have all the answers already; we're a group of people trying to figure it all out together. The Ultimate Comment is leaderless and open-source. We're not gonna tell you what to do and what not to do. We will not restrict anyone to a certain philosophy or canon; on the contrary, we urge you to consider and learn about as many philosophies and viewpoints as possible. And we will never, ever ask for your money. We call ourselves a 'cult' because that word instantly creates a slight distrust, and it wouldn't be any fun if you trusted everything we said. Anyone discoursing on the nature of Ultimate Reality should not tell you What's What, because whatever they tell you will only be words, and words are not Ultimate Reality. We are like weathermen - and you don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.
Is The Ultimate Comment a joke? Yes, but we really mean the joke. The distinction between joking and meaning what you say is not nearly as important as people think. Any religion or philosophy that isn't funny has overlooked a major aspect of human consciousness
But this is absurd! A spoon is not a god! Dig this: all religions have the same aim: union with, and knowledge of the absolute. They represent this in various ways, with different gods, rites and rules. The problems with religions arise when the outer forms used to represent the holy truth become confused with reality, so people get the idea that God is different from Allah because the names are different. From the beginning, man has created his gods and not th'other way 'round. All names for the absolute are arbitrary, for it is beyond names and forms. However, we must give it name and form if we are to talk about it. So the forms we choose are ones that are obviously arbitrary and absurd, so there should be no danger of confusing them with the real thing. (By the way, if you ever meet the Buddha, kick him in the nuts.)
How are you going to find the secret of the universe? Through metacommentology, ritual, altered states of consciousness, study and learning, mapping interconnectednesses, joking, noticing I.M.C.s and any other means we stumble upon.
What are your influences? They vary a lot, and each member has their own influences. Robert Anton Wilson is certainly a major influence.
What is metacommentology? Look over here!
