Alexander Shulgin is a psychedelic guru. Timothy Leary was a psychedelic guru. Cliff Pickover is a psychedelic guru. D.M. Turner was a novice who thought he was a psychedelic guru. He wrote bad books about drugs and peppered them with silly musings like, "I know myself to be the substance of which the manifest universe is made". It has been commented that he "talks about 'consensus reality' as though it were a branch of the CIA".
He serves as a reminder not to take oneself to seriously and to preserve a sense of irony when you're talking crazy talk. On the plus side, he had pretty good initials.
