Ingredients

For the cake
- 6 oz. self-rasng flour
- 6 oz. sugar
- 6 oz. margarine/stork/butter (soft)
- 3 eggs
- 2 tbsp cocoa
- 30ml milk
- Optional: 1 tbsp golden syrup/1 bar melted chocolate/1 dessert spoon ground almonds/1 tsp. vanilla
- It is also possible to increase the amounts to 150% of their proportions, e.g. 9 oz. flour, or use large eggs. May be too much for some people.

For the filling
- 2 oz. butter/margarine
- 6 oz. icing sugar/confectioner's sugar
- 2 tbsp. cocoa
- 2 tbsp. water
- Optional: 1 tbsp. ground chocolate (hot chocolate mix)/1 tbsp. golden syrup/1 chocolate yoghurt (you will need 2 oz. more icing sugar for consistency)

Other
- 2 8" (20cm) shallow biscuit tins
- Tinfoil/Greaseproof paper
- Whisk (electric preferred)
- Spoons and a knife (1 tbsp. = two dessert spoons)

Method
- Preheat oven to 180 degrees C (fan)
- Line and grease the two biscuit tins
- Whisk eggs in a bowl
- Sift flour into bowl; whisk
- Put butter in the bowl; whisk
- Put sugar in the bowl; whisk
- Add remaining ingredients; whisk until smooth
- ^Or just throw them all in at the same time and whisk
- Place tins in oven for about 30-40 mins or until a match stuck into the layers emerges completely clean apart from one or two small crumbs at the top
- Make icing, throw all ingredients into a bowl;whisk until completely smooth
- Allow cake to cool for at least 40 minutes, take it out of the tins onto a wire cooling rack, putting it in the fridge might also help.
- Put kettle on and make tea
- Ice top of bottom layer with a spatula or a knife, place top layer on top, ice top layer, ice the sides with whatever's left over.
- Bring tea and cake to waiting friends
