Maynooth University attempt world record waterfight.
'Tis the season for Irish Universities to host their Rag Weeks, a week where students attempt to break personal records for binge-drinking and sessioning. This year, NUI Maynooth are attempting to break a World Record of their own; to host the World's Biggest Waterfight.
On Tuesday 7th of march, NUI Maynooth will try to make it into the Guinness world book of records. The students' union along with the swimming and waterpolo club hope to host the worlds largest waterballoon fight. This event needs over a thousand people to turn up as well as more than 10,000 balloons to be thrown. It's a task which Trinity College have attempted and failed at.
Here's what a member of staff at Maynooth University had to say when questioned if this task was possible; "Doable? We're going to thrash those Trinners bastards whether I have to throw ten thousand feckin' balloons myself. This time, it's personal". A 'stunt' of this scale has not been attempted in Maynooth University before, prompting questions of safety from the viewpoint of the local Gardaí. "Oh, I'll be makin' sure there's no play-actin' down there" says one cautious Garda "as long as everybody sticks to the rules, nobody'll get hurt". With recent speculation as to whether the Gardaí can actually control a fight on a large scale, this will be ample opportunity for the Gardaí to 'practise' on students.
We wish NUI Maynooth students the best of luck in their sessions, and the University with their, quite frankly, insane task for this year's rag week. Besides, you get a chance to hit those annoying people with a water balloon in the face in good spirit, but secretly with a deep burning hatred of their very bodies and souls.
