Multidimensional Hyperdrive

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/01/06/hyperdrive/

The US military is considering try out the concept of a hyperdrive to go really really really really fast. Mars in 3 hours, they say. It involves some sort of big magnet and floating coil to go into dimensions where the speed of light could be a lot faster and so we could surpass our current limit.

The problem is the physics it's based on is understood by approximately 2 people in the world and is "hazy" at best.

But hey, a practical dimensional transfunctioner eh?

On other matters a new, a more standard transfunctioner was sighted yesterday on top of a church in Ballinteer, but no camera was to hand and so it shall remain undocumented until further investigation is done. It would suggest a coverup from the church on the true nature of things, and perhaps a collaboration with extradimensional entities acting as "God" to gain followers / subjects to follow them into their dimension, which they lead people to believe is Heaven.

[Augmented] Reality Fish

A website detailing an art installation called "Augmented Fish Reality" has come to my attention. The project involves fish inside Siamese Fighting Fish inside specially designed tanks with infra-red sensors that drive robotic bowls around. Apparently the fish are able to do this alright, and are not shy in interacting with people. The robots have plants on top of this. This is really weird. It might have something to do with the reality fish.

The Game Tree - I just lost

A website called The Game Tree has been set up to discover the origin of the Game by back-tracking through everyone who has helped spread it. They have already created several "sub-trees" but as the number of people playing the game must be in the millions, this project requires your help!

Albert Hofmann turns 100

Albert Hofman celebrated his 100th birthday on the 11th January this year.
In honour of the man who supposedly invented LSD, a symposium is underway this weekend in Basel, Switzerland.

The event will mainly host talks by experts from various fields, varying from vaguely to insanely psychedelic, such as mathematicians, musicologists, Psychedelic Digital Artists, Professional Drug Geeks, ethnobotanists, psychologists, pharmacists, activists, consciousness researchers... the list goes on and on.
Speakers that may be familiar are the creators of drug information website Erowid.org, 'psychedelic chemist' Dr. Alexander Shulgin and his wife Ann Shulgin, artist Alex Grey and of course Dr. Hofmann himself.

Rumours circulating indicate that some individuals are planning to 'drop acid' in celebration of the centenary of Dr. Hofmann, many of which are expected to hallucinate Aztec patterns and the face of Richard D. James.

Noam Chomsky in UCD

Noam Chomsky, the linguist and thinker, is giving three talks in UCD next week:

Tuesday, January 17th, 7p.m., O'Reilly Hall - 'Democracy Promotion: Reflections on intellectuals and the state'

Thursday, January 19th, 7p.m., O'Reilly Hall - 'Stark, Dreadful, Inescapable: The Question of Survival'

Friday, January 20th, 4:30p.m., O'Reilly Hall - 'Biolinguistic Explorations: Design, Development, Evolution'

Noam Chomsky is professor emeritus of linguistics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the university where the future is being invented. He is known for his defense of the universal grammar hypothesis, his criticism of B.F. Skinner's behaviourist theories of language, and his formulation of generative grammar theory.

NOTE THAT THE LOCATION OF THE SECOND AND THIRD TALKS HAS BEEN CHANGED FROM THEATRE L TO THE O'REILLY HALL. DOORS WILL OPEN FOR ALL TALKS ONE HOUR BEFORE THE SCHEDULED START TIME. THE LEVEL OF INTEREST IS HIGH, SO GET THERE EARLY TO ENSURE A PLACE.

Mini Transfunctioners

mintrans (40k image)
Today we draw attention to the mini-transfunctioners that line the pavements of O'Connell Street. They are small metal "buttons" of concentric circles with a large filled metal circle in the centre - which has a clear apex point. Viewed from above, they appear analogous to the transfunctional monument itself. Their function is unknown, however in the physical space of this universe they may mark the edge of the pavement (since, as tragic events this year have proven, some people are incapable of determining where the O'Connell street pavement ends and begins).

the Orloj

This is the so-called "Astronomical Clock" in Pragues town square, which displays the position of the planets. It has recently come to the attention of the Ultimate Comment and our Prague correspondent that this clock may in fact control the planets (it seems just as likely as the planets controlling a clock) and may be linked to the transfunctional network. (In the same way as the Maze Where Realities converge is linked to the Dimensional Transfunctioner). The Orloj and the transfunctional network are being discussed here.
