01/14/2006: "Albert Hofmann turns 100"

Albert Hofman celebrated his 100th birthday on the 11th January this year.
In honour of the man who supposedly invented LSD, a symposium is underway this weekend in Basel, Switzerland.
The event will mainly host talks by experts from various fields, varying from vaguely to insanely psychedelic, such as mathematicians, musicologists, Psychedelic Digital Artists, Professional Drug Geeks, ethnobotanists, psychologists, pharmacists, activists, consciousness researchers... the list goes on and on.
Speakers that may be familiar are the creators of drug information website Erowid.org, 'psychedelic chemist' Dr. Alexander Shulgin and his wife Ann Shulgin, artist Alex Grey and of course Dr. Hofmann himself.
Rumours circulating indicate that some individuals are planning to 'drop acid' in celebration of the centenary of Dr. Hofmann, many of which are expected to hallucinate Aztec patterns and the face of Richard D. James.
